Richard Handford

Richard graduated with a BSc in Podiatry from University of Plymouth in 1993. Upon qualifying he worked full time for a number of NHS Podiatry departments in North Yorkshire, Norfolk and Hertfordshire. During that time his role covered community clinics, GP practices, acute hospitals, Outpatients as part multidisciplinary medical teams, more recently as a Clinical supervisor in a C19 Mass Vax centre.

1999 saw Richard entering full time private practice in Bishops Stortford having taken over a long standing existing Podiatry practice. He still manages this practice having relocated to Nairobi where he works in at Fit the Foot. Since living in Nairobi he has spoken at a number of symposiums and has volunteered in a number of NGO clinics.

After a number of years in practice Richard returned to formal education and completed assessed courses in, Prescription only Medicine for Podiatrists certification from Cardiff Metropolitan University and gained a Post Grad certificate in Skin Integrity & Wound Care from the University of Hertfordshire.

Richard has also served as an elected member of council of the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists (2010-2017). During this time his roles included 2 years as a Vice President, a trustee of the College of Podiatry and assisting in the setting of national guidelines for Podiatry.
Further to his commitment to the future of Podiatry and has also mentored a number of students and new graduates within his practice.

Richard is a member of Festival Medical Services and volunteers in festival healthcare at Glastonbury & Reading festivals.

Richard is registered with the HCPC (no CH11999), is a member of the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists and the faculty of Podiatric Medicine of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Glasgow.
